FAQ

Q
What is a 'Reverse Pitch'?
A
The Visegrad in the Ring event pursues a demand driven model where we connect corporate demands with startup solutions in a boxing ring. The world has changed and it's not just startups that have to pitch, but the big fish too. Corporations will get into the ring and have 5 minutes to pitch their mission, the trends they see and state their specific needs to startups (reverse pitch).

Q
What does a battle in the boxing ring look like?
A
Register and get your free tickets to find out! But in a nutshell, a corporate reverse pitcher steps into the ring to the tune of their theme song. He or she then delivers a keynote-like pitch that highlights what their company does, why they are great, but then also goes deeper and tells startups directly about the areas in which they need help and where they are looking to invest or find innovative improvements. They then step out of the ring. Two startups then step into the ring to the tune of their own theme songs (creativity is welcome). Each startup has 5 minutes to pitch back their solutions to those reverse pitched needs in back and forth rounds of 30 seconds each highlighting their Vision, Problems vs Solutions, Business Model, Team, Traction and Why they are Better than their opponent. The host and ringmaster referee moderate the exchanges and keep the time. Once time is up, ding ding ding, the renowned jury gives their feedback punches and asks questions. It is then up to the corporate reverse pitcher to declare the winner, but the crowd can indeed make some noise or vote via chatbot to make their opinion heard. The winner then receives the in-kind prizes offered by the corporate reverse pitcher company and a family photo is taken. They then take their pride or grief and step out of the ring to make way for the next battle.

Q
If I am a selected startup contestant, how do I prepare?
A
Relax. Take a deep breadth. Talk less, say more. Each round will consist of 40 seconds so be clear & simple. We may not all be from the same industry, but we all want to understand. You will not have any slides to visually present, so illustrate with your rhetoric & words. But fear not as there will be many mentors to help you adjust your pitch to this type of Startup Darwinist approach. For selected startups there will be a preparation day of mentoring on Nov. 30th from 10:00 to 17:00 to practice in the ring.

Q
I am a startup. Why should I apply?
A
This is quite the opportunity to get the word out about your product and generate eyeballs. You will have exposure to top investors, have access to key mentors & validators, benefit from specific in-kind prizes per corporation, sharpen your presentation skills under pressure, have follow on social media marketing and plenty of videos to advertise your startup, not to mention having the opportunity to network with potential distributors & partners from your region.
